Hi there, I love the concept, I think those super spacey, desolate environments are great for atmosphere and your gameplay idea is neat, so hopefully you’re working on a more narrative concept of this game because I want to know more. Personally, I could have absolutely lived without the (visual) jumpscares (and I go on a few rants throughout the lets play regarding those) because they disrupt the tension with some goofy spoops. I think the game without them would be a lot more uncanny, especially if the audio jumpscares stayed in, but that’s just my two cents.
We’ll consider making two versions: one with jumpscares, and one without, because quite a few people really like them, and of course quite a few don’t, so in the end it’s hard to decide. Thank you so much for the awesome feedback, thank you for playing!
I included this demo into my first 3 Scary Games! Really good and scary demo, the jumpscares definitely got me. If I had to make one critique I would say having more still figures like the very end of the demo would be more creepy and scary than just jumpscares.
Great Demo.. a bit short and left me wanting a bit more. As for scares, the build up per jump scares really did the trick.. Louder sounds than expected even with the warning but not all bad.. I'll be expecting great things from the Full game Good Job!
I normally have very little patience for games that base their horror on being incomprehensible. A lot of the time it just feels like randomness for the sake of randomness, shaking off any unease I may feel.
Trumpets is not one such game.
Granted, I still have no idea what is going on in it, but a simple trick like forcing you to rely on sound to lead you to the jump scares, the narration at the beginning and the way CDs change the environment, there is enough here to get a player genuinely curious. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, I really did.
Like everyone else has been saying, this is great! I love a good sound based horror game. I've always believed that sound is a large contributor to how scary a game is and this game does it very well. I can't help but feel a little annoyed when I'm told to listen closely then a blaring noise startles me but that's just part of the experience. Just don't play games with the sounds as loud as I do lol rip my ears D: Overall this was an awesome and fun experience. Thanks for making it!
Gotta say (like everyone else), that first jumpscare got me WAY too good. It was so sudden and man it got me good. The rest of the DEMO was lots of fun as well! As expected, the sound design was amazing and left me constantly expecting something from the noises, but honestly, I loved that nothing did, which left the game more suspenseful and enjoyable. I think I missed one of the jumpscares but at the time I didn't realize (obviously). Overall, I really enjoyed what I played and can't wait to see what comes of the demo! I made a video on it if you'd like to check it out! If you do and enjoy it, please do consider subscribing, but it's up to you! Thanks again!
LOVED THE GAME!!! The idea of a sound based horror game like this is the best. Also found out where that one creepy song came from, cus I've heard it before (I put it in the video, cus I'm a huge music nerd,The source I found on YT says it's from 4/9/1860), and actually knew someone who has a recording of it on the super old records. Can't wait for the full game!
I had a lot of fun with this game! It was pretty simple but the jumpscares were effective and it played well. It reminded me a lot of First Winter in its presentation style and atmosphere (which is not a bad thing!). I'm excited to see what this becomes in the full game because there is a lot of potential here!
Hey, I included your game in my latest Itch.io Horror Games video! The part with your game starts around 0:08! I really, really enjoyed your game, can't wait to see what ya'll do next! And I hope you enjoy the video! Cheers!
The game is based off of the Trumpet sky phenomenon, as the description reads. It’s about mysterious sounds from the sky, and I believe there are trumpet sounds.
my only gripe was the overly loud volume of the second jumpscare. a very common mistake unfortunately, don't do it again as it hurts the ears of people with sensitive hearing like me (i can handle jumpscares but they should not be actually physically irritating to the ears)
Alright, this was an interesting demo. I never thought I would be immersed in a mostly sound based game with very little set dressing. Glad you proved me wrong. Also, You got me a couple time with those jump scares haha. I can see that you are working growing this game a bit more and I am excited to see what lore you will add to this odd place. If I have any critiques for this game would be to add a story, a bit more color to the environment, and slightly reduce the walking distance to some places. Overall, I had fun and keep it up!
